The Mendip Hills, Somerset is a beautiful landscape with unique places to visit. The Mendip Hills contain moorland, gorges, caves, beautiful villages and because they are essentially a plateau that fall away sharply on each side there are panoramic views on the edge of them including the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor, Brent Knoll, Chew Valley Lake, Blagdon Lake, Bristol, Wells, Axbridge, Quantocks, Exmoor, Bristol Channel, Brean Down, Steep Holm, Flat Holm and the Welsh Mountains.
The Mendip Hills are home to the stunning Cheddar Gorge and the lesser known Burrington Combe, as well as Deer Leap and the beautiful village of Priddy. The Mendip Hills have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Each holiday will differ in terms of the painting locations although some places will be regular but the following is a summary of possible painting locations. Obviously not all locations will be visited on each holiday. There is no shortage of places to paint.

This well known landmark has been attracting people for centuries and in Medieval times a Church was built on it by a group of monks. The tower still remains today and forms a significant part of the Tor's shape when seen on the skyline. Local artists and photographers are fascinated by the effects that can be gained from different lighting conditions around the Tor including sunsets and views at night or in early morning.
