Cheddar Gorge & Mendip Hills Painting Holiday with
Andrew Pitt
 | Paint in the stunning Cheddar Gorge and beautiful Mendip Hills with Andrew
Pitt, who is well known for his simple and direct teaching methods. All abilities welcome. The tuition is 5 days, is very hands on and will include painting at different locations. You will be in a group of
approximately 12 guests. Please bring paints and materials. Some folding chairs, boards and easels will be available for use when on site but if you have your own it is advisable to bring them.
The holiday takes place at The Penscot Inn in Shipham which is a little village on the edge of the Mendip Hills and has a typical Somerset village green opposite, thus providing plenty to inspire you to paint. The hotel is full of character and traditional charming features. All rooms have TV and are en-suite.
The hotel has a function room and conservatory with a walled garden/courtyard suitable for painting and is a short drive from the famous Cheddar Gorge. There is a footpath leading from the village green with glorious views across to the Bristol Channel. |

This
course is for anyone who has tried watercolour and been disappointed with
their pictures. Beginners are also welcome. There will be plenty of
demonstrations to show how the elusive properties of watercolour –
transparency and freshness – can be achieved using simple direct
painting methods. Students will also receive individual guidance according
to their experience. There is a studio in the hotel and an abundance of
varied landscape subjects within the Mendip
Hills
including Cheddar Gorge, Burrington and other spots with fantastic views. We will also be painting at a selection of the locations given in the painting locations page on this web-site.
Guests will arrive from 4pm on the Sunday, where drinks will be served and there will be an evening meal. We will also run through the proposed itinerary which will also be sent in advance of the holiday for your reference. Painting will start at 9.30-10am and finish at 4-4.30pm and there will be a light lunch each day. This will either be at the hotel, a pub lunch or packed lunch dependant on location. The holiday will finish at about 4pm on the Friday after lunch.
